Welcome new MQHA/MAQHA members
Welcome to MQHA and its amateur partner, MAQHA! Have questions about events or showing? Contact our Welcoming Committee, Jane Rocheleau (952.469.3287) and Kathy Baumgartner, if you have questions.
Here are some upcoming events you'll want to put on your calendar:
Feb. 25, 2012: Tack Swap and Clinic, Simon Arena, Cannon Falls. Great place to get deals on tack and clothing, get Professional Horseman tips, and meet people.
April 27-29, 2012: Minnesota Horse Expo, Minnesota State Fairgrounds. Stop at the MQHA booth and get special deals, ask questions, find new friends.
July 12-14: MQHA Boot Camp, R&J Arena, Verndale. Fun and new experiences for 4H participants, followed by an all-Novice show. Click here for details.
Corporate Challenge Corner
The 2011 MAQHA Corporate Challenge was very successful!
Thanks to the many Amateurs that gave of their time and talents to make
this year’s show a financial success. Our exhibitors had a great
time, were well taken care of, and for the most part were very
satisfied! That being said, there is always room for improvement on
everyone’s part. According to the show’s final numbers there was
a net of approximately $9000.00! A full financial report will be
given at this year’s December meeting.
On Sunday, September 11th, the Corporate Challenge committee met to recap the show and start planning for the 2012 show.
Once again, Lainie DeBoer has agreed to do another Over Fence
Clinic! She hopes to encourage participation by having smaller
groups for more one–on–one. By changing the schedule a bit, those
involved with the Clinic would have a day of rest before jumping their
horses for a third time – Something they were concerned about this last
year.
We are planning a Horsemanship Clinic with Robin Frid at this time
also, and details for a Fence and a Horsemanship Special Event are
being worked out with AQHA. Stay tuned for further updates!
Our judges are all verbally hired and contracts will be going out this
week. We have a great slate of judges that are excited to be a
part of this show. They are: Don Bell, Michael Colvin, Buddy
Fisher, Karen Graham, Chris Kozlowski, and Dan Trien.
We have been tossing prize ideas around and have contacted our very own
Alex Conger to update some logo artwork. Brenda Stevemer is
pricing prizes at this time – if you have some great ideas please give
her a call!
Rosie Hauge will be rounding up our Ring Stewards once again. If
you are interested in doing this job please give Rosie a call – she
found us great ones last year! If she already has those positions
filled, then I’m sure she’d LOVE to have your help with the Hospitality
Tent! She also volunteered to man the tent for our exhibitors
–show your appreciation for their participation in your show and
volunteer for an hour or two…or for a day or four!
Julie Bernick will be taking care of our vendors and sponsorships again
this year. Please let her know if you would like to hang your
banner in the Werner Arena again this year. If you know of an
interested party please let her know – this job gets more complicated
year after year because banners need updating, need to be hung, and
bills need to be sent. Here again – feel free to contact Julie to
help her out!
Rusty Carlson will be in charge of the gate and tunnel and getting our
workforce together for that! Also, getting prizes organized and
to the exhibitors, as well as coordinating their presentation with
Weezie.
Jay and Patrice will be in charge of the show office and will have/need
helpers there as well. We will be looking for office help, as
well as Announcer help. (They help our announcer’s tabulate Circuit
Awards, and run information between the office and the announcers, also
help with class counts/entries.)
Todd Morrow will be in charge of the whole “Event” that is the
Corporate Challenge. He will make sure the all the areas are
properly staffed, be a go-between the Fairgrounds and the show, and
help if/where needed.
There will be double duty with many of these positions this year
because of the exciting addition of the AgStar Arena at the
fairgrounds. Construction of the new arena plus about 30 new
stalls in that arena was to begin after the Champ Show ended. We
will be the 1st organization that will be using it, and it will
certainly help with the schedule!!
Please know that the Corporate Challenge Committee is committed to
making the 2012 show a huge success. As Amateurs we all need to
step up to the plate and lend a helping hand! The committee
can’t, and shouldn’t have to, do it without all of you!! The show
is only as good as its parts…we look to build on to an already
successful show! Please send any constructive ideas to any of the
committee members. We look forward to hearing from you! We
will be meeting again at the end of the month, so until then, enjoy
your Indian summer, and Congress if you are going!
Respectfully submitted,
Patrice Thesing, MAQHA Sec.
Things to think about for Dec. meeting: By-Law Committee
Our 2004 version of the By-Laws may need revamping/updating. Also,
Nominating Committee – we need candidates for four MAQHA Board
positions. Amanda Fjerstad, Jill Garcia, Mary Beth Knight, and Madelene
White will all be off the Board in Dec. 2011, according to Julie Cain’s
previous Secretary’s report.
